What is Indian Head Massage ?

Indian Head Massage, also known as Champi, is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that has been practised for thousands of years.

The treatment focuses on the scalp, face, neck and shoulders—areas where we commonly hold physical and emotional tension.

Using gentle massage techniques, flowing movements and carefully applied pressure, this therapy encourages deep relaxation, improves circulation and supports your body's natural ability to restore balance.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Your treatment begins with gentle work on the shoulders and upper back, helping to release muscular tension and prepare the body for deep relaxation.

The massage then moves through the neck and scalp using rhythmic movements designed to ease stress and improve circulation.

Finally, gentle techniques are applied to the forehead, temples and face, creating a profound sense of calm and helping you feel refreshed, balanced and re-energised.

Natural oils may be used if preferred to nourish the scalp and hair.

Indian Head Massage

An ancient Ayurvedic treatment focused on the head, neck, and shoulders to balance mind, body, and spirit.

What is Indian Head Massage?

Also known as Champi, Indian Head Massage is a treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders. It often uses circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition.

It originates from the Indian alternative medicine system called Ayurveda (translated as the ‘science of life’), which believes the mind and body are intricately connected. Through this theory, Indian Head Massage can reduce headaches, improve physical well-being, and enhance mental and emotional wellness too.

Your Treatment Session

A typical Indian Head Massage treatment usually starts with the shoulders, working deeply into this area as it often holds a lot of tension. The upper back may also be massaged around the shoulder blade.

Following this, flowing motions move up the neck, massaging and gently stretching to relieve any stress and tension.

Finally, the scalp is massaged along the acupressure points on the head, followed by work on the forehead and the area around the eyes. The upper arms can also be included.

Optional: The massage may be coupled with nourishing oils (like coconut or almond oil) to condition the hair and promote scalp health and growth.
